Andacht – Hoffnung auch in dunklen Zeiten

Als vor gut 25 Jahren das neue Evangelische Gesangbuch rauskam, war ich gerade Vikar in Oldenburg bei Bremen. Und meine Vikarskolleg/innen waren sehr neidisch auf das bayerische Gesangbuch, weil es mit Bildern und Texten ist. Ich war neidisch auf das Oldenburger Gesangbuch, weil es ein Lied enthält, das es leider nicht in das bayerische Gesangbuch geschafft hat. Im katholischen Gotteslob kann man es finden (Nr. 270). Es ist ein Lied von Eckart Bücken und heißt „Kreuz, auf das ich schaue.“
Mir ist dieses Lied sehr wichtig, weil es die Kreuzestheologie in einzigartiger Weise auf den Punkt bringt: Wir haben viel Leid vor Augen und vertrauen dabei dem, der es selbst am Kreuz durchlitten hat, Jesus. Aufgrund der Auferstehung Jesu haben Christ/innen selbst in dunklen Zeiten noch Hoffnung. Etwas Neues wird entstehen, und wir müssen deshalb nicht verzagen! Möge dieses Lied auch Euch in der Karwoche und in den dunklen Zeiten, die wir gerade durchleben müssen, etwas Zuversicht geben!
Barmherziger Gott, stärke uns, indem wir den Sinn von Kreuz und Auferstehung neu verstehen und spüren können. Gib uns ein friedliches Osterfest! Amen.

About 25 years ago, we recieved a new hymnbook in the lutheran church of Germany. It’s a bit different in the several parts of Germany. At that time I was a Vikar in the church of Oldenburg, near Bremen in northern Germany. My colleagues have been very envious because the Bavarian hymnbook included pictures and small other texts. I have been envious because the hymnbook of Oldenburg included a special hymn, that was not part of the Bavarian hymnbook. You can find this song in the catholic hymnbook (no 270). It’s a song by Eckart Bücken end it’s called “I look at the cross”. I try to translate:
I look at the cross, it is a sign, the one whom I trust in, is close to me through it.
I flee to the cross out of the darkness, instead of sorrow and pain it’s time for hope now.
From the cross I step into a new day, please, stay close to me in order not to despair.
This song is very important for me, because it points out the main ideas of a theology of the cross: Everyday we face a lot of suffering, but in spite of this we trust in the one who suffered himself at the cross, Jesus. Because of his resurrection christians still have hope even in dark times. Something new will be created, so we don’t have to despair! I hope this song is able to make you a bit more confident in the holy week and in the dark times we are going through just now, too.
Merciful god, strengthen us by understanding and feeling the idea of your cross and resurrection again. Give us a peaceful Easter together! Amen.
