Andacht – Bitte um Weisheit

 

Wenn es jemandem unter euch an Weisheit mangelt, so bitte er Gott, der jedermann gern und ohne Vorwurf gibt; so wird sie ihm gegeben werden. Jakobus 1,5

 

Weisheit kommt an vielen Stellen der Bibel vor. Sie ist nie etwas, was man allein durch Ausbildung, Studium und Wissen erreichen kann. Diese Aspekte sind auch wichtig, und Schriften in der hebräischen Bibel greifen sogar auf Erkenntnisse und Einsichten anderer Völker zurück. Ein Aspekt darf aber nie fehlen: Weisheit ist ein Geschenk Gottes. Der Jakobusbrief greift das auf und sagt: Wem an Weisheit mangelt, der bitte Gott darum.

In der Bibel äußert sich Weisheit darin, wie ein Mensch lebt und handelt. An anderer Stelle nennt der Jakobusbrief ein paar Kennzeichen dieser Weisheit. Sie wird bei Menschen an ihrem ganzen Leben abzulesen sein, an ihrer Freundlichkeit und Güte. Im Gegensatz dazu stehen Menschen, die gehässig, voller Neid und Streitsucht sind. Der Jakobusbrief schreibt weiter: „Die Weisheit aber, die von Gott kommt, ist vor allem aufrichtig; außerdem sucht sie den Frieden, sie ist freundlich, bereit nachzugeben und lässt sich etwas sagen. Sie hat Mitleid mit anderen und bewirkt Gutes; sie ist unparteiisch, ohne Vorurteile und ohne alle Heuchelei.“ (Übersetzung: Hoffnung für Alle)

Da muss man nicht mehr viel kommentieren. Wir Menschen brauchen solche Weisheit. Bitten wir Gott darum: für uns und andere Menschen.

If any of you need wisdom, ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone. He doesn’t find fault. James 1:5

 

The Bible is talking about wisdom in many places. It is never something that can be achieved through training, study and knowledge alone. These aspects are also important and writings in the Hebrew Bible even draw on knowledge and insights from other people. But one aspect must never be missing: Wisdom is a gift from God. The Letter of James picks up on this and says: whoever needs wisdom, ask God for it.

In the Bible, wisdom is expressed in the way a person lives and acts. Elsewhere, the Letter of James names a few characteristics of this wisdom. It can be seen in people’s lives, in their kindness and goodness. In contrast to this are people who are jealous and bitter. The Letter of James goes on to write: „But the wisdom that comes from heaven is pure. That’s the most important thing about it. And that’s not all. It also loves peace. It thinks about others. It obeys. It is full of mercy and good fruit. It is fair. It doesn’t pretend to be what it is not.“ (Translation: New International Readers Version)

There is no need to comment much more. We human beings need such wisdom. Let us ask God for it: for us and for other people.
