Andacht – Herz statt Schuhe

Ein Mensch sieht, was vor Augen ist, der Herr aber sieht das Herz an.

1. Sam 16,7

 

„Der erste Eindruck zählt!“

„Du könntest doch auch mal was aus dir machen.“

„Die hat aber schon zugenommen während Corona.“

„Schöne Menschen haben es erwiesenermaßen leichter im Leben.“

 

Diese oder ähnliche Aussagen sind uns allen schon einmal begegnet. Ebenso wie der Appell, auch einmal „hinter die Fassade zu blicken“ und bei unseren Mitmenschen eben nicht nur auf Äußerlichkeiten zu achten. Es kann nicht oft genug betont werden, wie wichtig es ist, nicht nur mit den Augen zu sehen, sondern mit dem Herzen auf das Herz des oder der Anderen zu blicken. Nicht anhand von Aussehen, Statussymbolen oder beruflicher Stellung zu urteilen. Das ist mir wieder einmal aufgefallen, als ich zufällig über den Vers aus dem ersten Samuel-Buch gestolpert bin.

Gerade meine Schülerinnen und Schüler im Teenager-Alter kann ich nicht oft genug daran erinnern, dass sie wertvoll sind und dass sie geliebt werden, auch wenn sie in den Augen der anderen Jugendlichen nicht cool genug sind, weil sie nicht die „richtigen“ Sneaker tragen, nicht das neueste Handy besitzen, nicht dünn/kräftig/gestylt genug sind. In solchen Momenten erinnere ich mich immer wieder an meine eigene Schulzeit. Ich war nie cool und habe auch nicht dazugehört. Aber ich konnte mich immer auf meine Eltern verlassen, die mir wieder und wieder bestätigt haben, dass ich gut genug bin und geliebt bin, so wie ich bin. Und ganz genauso bestätigt uns Gott, dass wir gut und geliebt sind, so wie wir sind; denn er sieht unser Herz an. Das soll uns Menschen Mut machen, es IHM gleich zu tun und unseren Mitmenschen ins Herz anstatt auf die Schuhe zu sehen!

Und wenn wir schon an uns arbeiten, uns „upgraden“ und verbessern sollen – dann bitte unseren Blick auf die Menschen, die um uns sind.

„The first impression counts!“

„You could do something with yourself.“

„She did put on weight during Corona, didn’t she?“

„It has been proven that beautiful people have an easier life.“

 

We have all come across all of these or similar statements. Just like the appeal to „look behind the facade“ and not only to pay attention to the outside with our fellow human beings. It cannot be emphasized enough that it is important not only to look with the eyes but to look at the heart of the other with the heart. Not based on appearance, status symbols or professional position. I noticed that again when I accidentally stumbled across the verse from the first Samuel book.

I cannot remind my teenage students in particular that they are valuable and that they are loved, even if they are not cool enough in the eyes of other teenagers because they are not wearing the “right” sneakers, because they do not have the latest mobile phone or are not thin / strong / styled enough. In moments like these, I always remember my own school years. I was never cool and I didn’t belong to the cool kids. But I could always rely on my parents who repeatedly confirmed to me that I am good enough and loved as I am. And just as God confirms to us that we are good and loved as we are; because he looks at our heart. This should give us people courage to do the same to HIM and to look into the hearts of our fellow human beings instead of looking at their shoes!

And if we are already working on ourselves, „upgrading“ and improving – then please improve the look at the people around us.
