Prof. Dr. Philomena Njeri Mwaura is considered one of the most important African feminist theologians: She is an associate professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Kenyatta University in Nairobi/Kenya. At this university, she is a Member of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians as well as the Chairperson of the Board of the Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development.

In the past, she has held among others the following positions and offices:

– President of the International Association for Mission Studies

– Coordinator of the Commission on Theology and the Commission on Women of the Ecumenical Association of Third World Theologians for the African Region

– Director of the Centre for Gender Justice and Empowerment.

 

„How can we still speak of mission in an honest and upright way today, with regard to the churches in Africa, but from there worldwide?“

Professor Dr. Philomena Mwaura will address this question in her lecture and make it clear what an immense task the church is facing through „its mission“. She sees a possible solution in the mobilization and own initiative of people who may be empowered by the renewal through the Holy Spirit to rebuild their endangered lives. She gives examples to illustrate how and where this is already happening – or is still urgently expected. In a globalized and entangled world, the Gospel is thus already coming to fruition through people and projects.

 

The presentation follows an interdisciplinary approach. Warmly invited are all interested persons, students of all categories, professionals as well as volunteers from ecumenical and partnership work in churches and congregations, development-related work, ecumenical theology, students, and pastors. Einladung der Fachhochschule für Interkulturelle Theologie Hermannsburg (FIT) in Kooperation mit dem Referat Mission Interkulturell, Mission EineWelt, Neuendettelsau

Prof. Dr. Philomena Njeri Mwaura gilt als eine der wichtigsten afrikanischen feministischen Theologinnen: Sie ist außerordentliche Professorin in der Abteilung für Philosophie und Religionswissenschaften an der Kenyatta University in Nairobi/Kenia. An dieser Universität ist sie Mitglied des Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians sowie Vorstandsvorsitzende des Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development.

In der Vergangenheit hatte sie unter anderem folgende Positionen und Ämter inne:

– Präsidentin der International Association for Mission Studies

– Koordinatorin der Kommission für Theologie und der Kommission für Frauen der Ökumenischen Vereinigung der Theologen und Theologinnen der Dritten Welt für die Region Afrika

– Direktorin des Zentrums für Gendergerechtigkeit und Empowerment.

„Wie ist auf redliche, integre Weise heute noch von Mission zu reden, im Blick auf die Kirchen in Afrika, aber von dort aus weltweit?“

Auf diese Frage wird Frau Professorin Dr. Philomena Mwaura in ihrem Vortrag eingehen und deutlich machen, vor welch immenser Aufgabe die Kirche durch „ihre Mission“ gestellt wird. Eine mögliche Lösung sieht sie in der Mobilisierung und in der eigenen Initiative von Menschen, die durch die Erneuerung durch den Heiligen Geist befähigt werden mögen, ihr gefährdetes Leben wieder neu aufzubauen. In einer globalisierten, verflochtenen Welt kommt so das Evangelium durch Menschen und Projekte bereits zur Wirksamkeit. Beispiele sollen illustrieren, wie und wo das bereits geschieht oder wo es noch dringendst erwartet wird.

Eingeladen sind alle Interessierten, insbesondere Verantwortliche und Ehrenamtliche aus der Ökumene- und Partnerschaftsarbeit in Kirchen und Gemeinden, Studierende aller Richtungen, Entwicklungsbezogen Arbeitende, Theolog*innen und Pfarrer*nnen jeglicher Konfession. Herzliche Einladung!

Der öffentliche Vortrag ist in englischer Sprache, die Diskussion und Fragerunde zweisprachig.
