For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of god that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

There is really nothing to add in principle. But perhaps it must be questioned: That is all well and good, but where can this love of god be felt, if my company has to remain closed due to corona and I do not see any financial way out? Where can this love be felt when a loved one is suddenly no longer with me due to illness or an accident? We keep making experiences in which we feel left alone and feel little of the love of god.

If you read carefully, you might guess that such painful experiences are included in these words. There is talk of death and life or of high and low. Even at the low points of life, even at death, then also applies: Nothing can separate us from the love of god.

To be accompanied by god and his love does not mean that you won’t go through difficult times. It means having someone by your side in difficult times. I find one thought of Dietrich Bonhoeffer very helpful in this context: “I believe that God wants to give us as much resilience as we need in any emergency. But he doesn’t give it beforehand …”
