Du bist ein Gott, der mich sieht. 1.Mose 16,13

You are the God who sees me. Genesis 16:13

What should be added to that? No matter what you do, it is seen by god.

Sounds good, gives a good feeling. Yes, with this promise you can feel safe with God and get strength for one or the other effort that life brings with it. But means in reverse that you can’t hide. God also sees the things or actions which aren’t so brilliant.

The daily motto continues from the Gospel of Luke:

But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Luke 18:13

The tax collector is ashamed. He can’t look up to god. He feels bad for the things the things he forced as a customs officer.

However, the customs officer has already reflected on his actions. He recognized that he acted not always right as a customs officer. He asks god to be gracious to him.

The behaviour of the customs officer reminds me of my children when they look embarassed to the ground and know exactly that their behaviour wasn’t quite right and it smells of potential trouble.

But as it is always said: from errors one learns! And you have to make experiences, they shape you.

God gives us the ability to discernment. He is gracious to us even when it didn’t go that well for us.

With this trust, it is good to know that God sees us and stands by us.

With this knowledge we should also be able to forgive the one or other mistake of our fellow human beings.

Let us trust together that everything will be fine and God has mercy on us.
